About the Writer

Hey guys! Welcome to Behind the Blank Page. My name is Kariana Anderson Rivers, but you can call me Kay. I am the business owner and writer.

If you’re looking for inspiration and support, you’ve found the right place. As a blogger, I share stories of fellow creatives, as well as my personal journey, adventures, and the messiness and joys of my life.

Born and raised in Southern California, I’ve made it my mission to see all this world has to offer. I travel frequently around the US and the Globe.  I’ve been lucky enough to visit fourteen countries and counting.

During the week, I am working on new content and writing my life away. I am reading as often as possible,  even if it means listening to audiobooks when I am not able to read a physical book. I love fashion and makeup, although I have a lot to learn about both.

I’ve been writing stories since I was six years old (my first was a short about a penguin family, I think). I consider myself a writer first and foremost. I write every day, whether in my journal, for creative pursuits, or professional tasks. My novel Leave A Light On, is the survivor story about Milly Ray-Cortez. It’s currently available in Kindle eBook and Paperback.

If you want to follow more of my journey, you can find me and my brand on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Education
Graduate student with an MA in Applied Linguistics and Public and Professional Writing (Spring 2023).

I graduated from California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) with a degree in English-Creative Writing. I worked my tail off and am proud to say I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2017.

Fiction Writing
I finished a young adult novel (70,000 words), entitled Leave a Light On. I’m currently pursuing publication. I used to write exclusively young adult fiction. However, my time at CSUSB pushed my writing scope and abilities in the best way possible. I’ve written three short stories in the paranormal/horror genres: “Eight,” “The Woman on Sutherland Lane,” “The Ghosts of Black River.” I’m also working on two additional fiction projects. One novel is a fantasy, and the other is a thriller.

Professional Writing
I’ve done professional and commercial writing for over ten years. I have experience in writing content for websites, marking emails, brochures, event programs, and press releases.

Representation
I am actively seeking representation. I believe in my work, and I know that writing is what I want to do with my life. To achieve my goals, I want to partner with an agent.
